If you’re planning on attending &ThenLA (#andThen16) in October then you’re headed to the L.A. Convention Center (LACC). Located in downtown Los Angeles next to the Staples Center, the LACC has been turning heads this past year for many different reasons. They are quickly establishing themselves as a destination event location to be reckoned with. While Los Angeles can’t compete with the off-the-charts adult funhouse atmosphere of Las Vegas, it does bring a few perks of its own you won’t want to miss.
5 Best Things about the LA Convention Center:
1. You just might see a movie being filmed while attending &ThenLA
The LACC has been the set for hundreds of movies and television shows. L.A. is the entertainment capital of the world. The downtown Los Angeles location of the LACC is surrounded by unique architectural design and a bustling city backdrop that lends itself to a variety of filming opportunities.
Movies such as Starship Troopers and Rush Hour have been filmed at the LACC. The doors of the South Hall are featured in the introduction of Chicago Hope. You may also recognize scenes from Gone Girl, Interstellar, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to name just a few.
2. Support the environment by attending an event at the LA Convention Center
The LACC first obtained its LEED certification in 2010. In 2015, they upped the ante and decided to go for gold with their recertification. They achieved it, and became the largest convention center in America to be recertified at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold level. This certification stamps their commitment to operate in a more environmentally conscious manner, including sustainable sites, water efficiency, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality.
In addition to their LEED Certification, the LACC has reached many other environmentally-friendly achievements, such as being named as a Water Efficiency Project of the Year Finalist and receiving the Sustainable Innovation Award in the Materials & Resources category at the United States Green Building Council (USGBC)-LA’s 11th Annual Green Gala. They also went dark for an hour to support Earth Day.
When you attend events such as &ThenLA, which are held at environmentally-friendly venues, you support their efforts to minimize our damaging impact on the environment.

3. Entertainment is at your fingertips at LA Live
L.A. Live is located adjacent to the L.A. Convention Center, and has you covered for after-hours entertainment at &ThenLA. This entertainment hub has restaurants, a movie theater, the Grammy Museum®, and the Conga Room for dancing. It’s the perfect way to wind down a long day of learning and networking at the convention, and head to happy hour with your new colleagues. Read more about L.A. Live Happy Hour schedules here. If you’re feeling frisky after happy hour, head to the Conga Room, co-owned by Jennifer Lopez, Sheila E., and will.i.am, among others for pan-Latin cuisine and live entertainment for you to salsa the night away to.
4. The Los Angeles Convention Center is surrounded by fabulous hotels
Los Angeles has certainly made it easy to find top-notch accommodations within walking distance of the LACC. You will find the Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Courtyard, and Residence Inn all part of L.A. Live located adjacent to the LACC. There are also many other wonderful hotels in downtown Los Angeles to stay at which are not part of L.A. Live.
If you are attending a convention at the Los Angeles Convention Center, staying downtown is highly recommended. It can be extremely difficult and time-consuming to navigate crosstown traffic in L.A., especially during morning and evening commutes.
5. Put on your shades and take a tour around L.A.
Los Angeles has beautiful weather in October, which makes it the perfect mini-vacation destination while attending &ThenLA. Stay a few extra days and hit the sights. Everything is outside in Los Angeles, so bring a cool pair of shades and hit the Chinese Theater and Hollywood Walk of Fame, which are located fairly close to the LACC (Note: They are not walking distance from the LACC, you will need an Uber, taxi, or rental car to get you there.).
If you’re feeling adventurous, hike up to the Hollywood sign for some breathtaking views. If you’ve had enough of the city life and are looking to escape to the beach, head across town to Santa Monica Pier or the shores of Malibu for some R&R with your toes in the sand.
The Los Angeles Convention Center has many unique experiences to offer its attendees, in addition to the sights and features of the venue itself. With nearly perfect weather year-round, there is no bad time to head west to a convention at the LACC, and catch some sights and sun while you’re there!
