Headed to a convention at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas this year? We are too! We’ll be at IMEX America, the top event for the meetings and event planning industry.
Many stay at The Venetian or The Palazzo hotels when attending events at the Sands Expo. However, rooms fill up quickly and they come at a price point that may stress the business traveler on a budget. Our travel planning for this business trip to Las Vegas got us thinking...
What are the best hotels near the Sands Expo Convention Center for business travelers on a budget? The following hotels made the list based on location close to the Sands Expo Convention Center, affordable room rates, business amenities, and business entertainment attractions:
1. Harrah’s Las Vegas Hotel
Located right in the middle of the Strip and next to the Sands Expo Convention Center (Note: We use the term “next to” loosely in Las Vegas because it still means a short car ride or a long walk, as everything is enormous and spread far apart along the Las Vegas Strip.) Harrah’s just finished a remodel, which updated the rooms to a clean and simple design.
Harrah's has all of the necessities you would expect at a Las Vegas hotel, including a large casino, restaurants such as Ruth’s Chris Steak House, a pool, spa, and shows. Their prices are usually more affordable than their neighbors and they always have a special discount offer available.
CN Insider Tip: Check out the twin sisters dueling it out at the Piano Bar every night for live comedic entertainment.
2. The Linq Hotel
The LINQ Hotel (#LINQlife) in Las Vegas is the newest hotel close to the Sands Expo Convention Center. The rooms are hip with a contemporary design and high tech features. There is also an outdoor shopping district called the LINQ Promenade with restaurants, bars, unique shops, and nightlife.
Room rates at the LINQ tend to be lower than its mega-hotel neighbors, though the amenities are sleek and modern. The large fitness center and cushy lounge beds around the pool will make it tough for you to want to leave for a day at the Convention Center.
CN Insider Tip: The High Roller is the world’s tallest observation wheel and is a 30-minute air-conditioned ride with breathtaking views. Take a spin at night for a magical display of lights on the Las Vegas Strip.
3. Treasure Island Las Vegas:
Located across the strip from the Sands, this full-service mega hotel often has better rates than its upscale counterparts on the Las Vegas strip. However, the lower price point doesn’t mean that Treasure Island is lacking in entertainment and amenities. The pool is lovely, there are several restaurants on the property, and it is home to the Mystere by Cirque du Soleil show as well.
CN Insider Tip: Treasure Island offers Dinner + Show packages that combine show tickets to Mystere with dinner at the restaurants inside the hotel for date night savings on both!
4. The Mirage
The Mirage is located on the Las Vegas Strip directly across the street from The Venetian and the Sands Expo Convention Center. If you are looking for some entertainment while attending your convention in Las Vegas, this is the hotel for you. They host several shows, including Boyz II Men, Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE show, and various comedians. The Mirage is also home to a variety of tasty restaurants with entertaining atmospheres. The Mirage has all of their bases covered for entertaining their business travelers.
CN Insider Tip: Be sure not to miss Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat. See bottlenose dolphins, white tigers, white lions and leopards up close in this hidden wonder.
5. Best Western Plus Casino Royale
We saved the “best” for last (pun intended) when it comes to staying in Las Vegas on a budget. The Best Western is located on the Las Vegas Strip right next to the Sands Expo and Convention Center. If you are attending a convention at the Sands and are looking for a hotel close by at a reasonable rate, the Best Western is your place.
The Best Western doesn't have all of the over-the-top amenities of the mega hotels located around them, but they do have a casino, pool, business center, Outback Steakhouse, fitness center, and free high-speed in-room Wi-Fi. The Las Vegas Best Western has everything a business traveler might need, and may even leave you with some money left over to press your luck with!
CN Insider Tip: The Best Western Casino Royale offers same-day dry cleaning service just in case you sweat through your suit in the Las Vegas heat!
Whether you are joining us at IMEX or have another convention on the horizon at the Sands Expo Convention Center in Las Vegas, these hotels are excellent nearby options. See you in Las Vegas!
